Richard B. Gelfond

Of Counsel Attorney

Richard B. Gelfond is an of counsel attorney to the firm with extensive and concentrated experience in the areas of residential and commercial real estate closings, title review work for lenders, title insurance law and mortgage foreclosures. Since 1986 he has been in private practice, specializing in these areas. In addition, he has owned and operated his own title insurance agency and has been New Jersey State Underwriting Counsel for Fidelity National Title Insurance Company.

Richard began his career as a Judicial Clerk in the New Jersey Superior Court. He then served for three years as a Deputy Attorney General with the Division of Law. In 1986 he became an associate in the law firm of William Furst, P.A., and later became a Partner in the firm Furst & Gelfond, PA. In 2002 he assumed the position of New Jersey Regional Counsel for United General Title Insurance Company and then became Vice President and New Jersey State Underwriting Counsel for Fidelity National Title Insurance Company.  Richard has also served as Vice President for Madison Title Agency, LLC.

Richard has authored nine articles in the New Jersey Law Journal dealing with real estate and title insurance issues. The articles include Insuring Title and Protecting Lenders, 183 N.J.L.J. 1149, March 27, 2006; New York vs. New Jersey Title and Closing Procedures, 177 N.J.L.J. 1190, September 27, 2004; Pitfalls to Avoid From Contract to Closing, 172 N.J.L.J. 1053, June 16, 2003. In addition, Richard has lectured frequently on title insurance issues and has given continuing education courses to title insurance agents.  He is admitted to practice law in the states of New Jersey and New York.

   

Richard attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude with Honors. He received his law degree from the New York University School of Law.
